milestone #27: shoot my first wedding!

Everyone has milestones in their life. Some are bigger than others. First bath, first tooth, first step, first day of school, first lost tooth, first crush, first time driving a car….you name it. It’s the same for a photographer. (Well, almost. You usually don’t have to doting parents there taking roll after roll of film to document, ’cause, well, you’re the one taking all the pictures. (; and, we’re in the digital stage. btw. not film. (; )

I’ve had my share of typical “firsts” and now I’m learning as a photographer how to handle the new, exciting and sometimes scary firsts coming my way! First ‘real’ digital camera (2008? I think. gosh, my memory is bad.), first blog post, first senior shoot….family shoot…kidlet photos….etc. I still have many more “firsts” to come, but a few weekends ago I had a very exciting first: a wedding! I’ve heard what many esteemed photographers have said about wedding photography. Jasmine Star says that it is one of the hardest things in the photography world, so it was safe to say that I went in to this nervously. But, I did it out of love and with all of who I am, gave it everything I have and know, and it went pretty smoothly–despite the constant rain outside and un-idea photography conditions inside for portraits. (:

Now: enjoy Kevin & Rachel’s wedding day!

love always!

a snippet of my sunday

I’ve always loved Sundays-there is just something so refreshing about them! It may be that it is in some ways the end of a hectic week, yet the beginning of a new, unwritten one. My family always goes to church together on Sunday…at least up until this year. Now that I’m in college, my dad has said that I am able to attend church at other places. but that’s a story for later. Usually I’m still at our church, either working at the nursery counter or singing/playing for the worship team. Today I was pleasently surprised to discover I had to do neither! And even more surprised was I when I got a text yesterday from my friend Jessica, saying that she was home from college this weekend! So, I quickly made up my mind to go to her church with her family (who, I might add, is basically my second fam.)

It was really wonderful to go somewhere different for a change and just be able to enjoy the service. I never realized how much work church can be until you have a part “behind the scenes,” so to speak. The message was wonderful and I was able to catch up with my old small group leader (I went to youth group junior/senior year at this other church) as well as some other friends.

And of course, whilst catching up with Jessa, we just had to take some photos. Here’s one of the best ones! (; (sorry about the cruddy quality…I didn’t want to lug my ‘big’ camera around, so I took my point&shoot instead.)

SummerFest!

My family’s church’s mission statement is “We help people become Joyous, Passionate Followers of Jesus.” I just love that. In the past few years, we’ve made changes in how we do things to help our members grow, and also to share our Joy with the surrounding communities here in the Cedar Valley, such as AWANAs and having greeters at our main entrances every Sunday morning.

A few weeks back, we threw a big picnic/party/grillout called SummerFest for the neighborhoods and whoever wanted to come. It was such a blast! Popcorn, cotton candy, hotdogs, cookies, face paint, a dunk tank…it was kid heaven, folks. I was assigned to be one of the photographers (of course! (; ) and had a blast observing everyone having a blast and being loved on by so many members of our church. Hopefully we were able to share Jesus’ love with the Cedar Valley. Now…for some pictures! There are a lot-consider yourself warned.

the grill-master…also one of my favorite doctors everrr. haha. we go way back. (: I love his shirt. It fit right in to what the point of SummerFest was!

A good time to just be together as a family…

Or to get to know someone new.

the bounce house was pretty exciting for most of the little kids…

and the dunk tank was very popular with the elementary crowd!

and other games were popular with the older kids.

mmmm. Kate likes licking her catsup. Hahahaha. (It does look like she’s licking her cookie..nope! Its the catsup on her hotdog!)

this was the cutest thing ever. No clue if they’re brothers or just friends….but awwwwh!

and now for some more random photos from SummerFest. I warned you this would be long!

this little boys was so cute. I really just wanted to take him home….mhhhm. (;

This last photo just sums up summer for me (: looove it, even if it is blurry.
